From Irmgarteichen, you’ll hike along the yellow-marked access trail to the main Rothaarsteig trail. Your next destination is another spring: The Dill is a 55-kilometer-long tributary of the Lahn and forms the natural border between the Hessian Westerwald and the Lahn-Dill Uplands. After passing through Hainchen and Gernsbach (523 m), you’ll reach the Tiefenrother Höhe (551 m). Here, you can enjoy spectacular views or breathtaking sunsets from the “Nase im Wind” observation deck.
After passing a small quarry, you’ll reach the 300-meter-long Haubergspfad, which provides an informative introduction to the topic of Hauberg agriculture. This unique form of land use—a combination of farming and timber production—emerged in connection with iron smelting. A few meters further on, at the “Kalteiche” trail junction, the Rothaarsteig splits. The main trail leads directly to Dillenburg. The Westerwald variant of the Rothaarsteig also leads to Dillenburg, but via the Fuchskaute in the High Westerwald. Stay on the main trail and you’ll soon reach the Lucaseiche natural monument, which, at 27.5 m tall with a trunk circumference of 3.85 m, is an impressive sight. Halfway down, the Rothaarsteig leads through the Steinbach Valley, past Fellerdilln, down into the Dill Valley, and heads toward the town of Rodenbach.

Information About the Emergency Signs on the Rothaarsteig
Hiking trails usually run away from towns and settlements, and anyone who hikes has surely wondered at some point what would happen if an emergency were to occur. How can I be found here? Where am I, anyway? Can emergency services reach me?
But in an emergency, time is of the essence! That’s why the Rothaarsteig is equipped with so-called emergency signs along its entire length. The green-and-white plaques attached to the signposts feature a number that you must provide when making an emergency call. This allows emergency responders to know exactly where you are, saving valuable time.
Note on the Increased Risk of Wildfires
Please be aware that due to dry conditions, there is currently an increased risk of wildfires! Therefore, please observe the following guidelines:
